The Consequences of 50 Years of the ‘Six Day War’
Facilitator: Shirin Dajani, GSP committee member
Venue: Kornhausforum, Kornhausplatz 8, Bern, Switzerland
Date/Time: Saturday, 17 June 2017, 4pm
In English, simultaneous German interpretation.
The ‘Six Day War’ of 1967 concluded Israel’s conquest of Palestinian lands, and was the beginning of Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
Miko Peled will debunk the Zionist myths that continue to be believed by many in Switzerland and elsewhere. He will ask what he learnt from his father, and how Israelis and Palestinians might overcome their deadly enmity.
Yousef Jabareen will describe the consequences of those six days on the Palestinian people, both on those who continue to live in the lands occupied by Israel, and on those who were driven off their land and have been forced to exist somewhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
The speakers:
• Miko Peled is the author of The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine. He is ‘an outspoken human rights and Palestinian rights activist.’ He was ‘born in Jerusalem into a well-known Zionist family. His maternal grandfather signed the Israeli Declaration of Independence. His father, Matti Peled, fought in the 1948 Israeli War of Independence and was a general in 1967 during the Six Day War when Israel conquered Gaza, the Golan Heights, the Sinai, and the West Bank.’ (
Dr. Yousef T. Jabareen, MK, is an Israeli Arab human rights scholar, lawyer, community activist, and a member of the 20th Knesset (Israel’s parliament).
