Like MAP – Medical Aid for Palestinians – and Scottish Friends of Palestine, Oban Concern for Palestine would like to remember Jo Cox MP, who was viciously murdered on 16 June 2016 while holding a constituency surgery. She had been an MP for just 13 months. By all accounts, she was a highly talented, warm-hearted, generous MP, well respected right across the political spectrum.
It will take time to make sense of this tragic loss of a wife and mother of two young children. Our hearts go out to her family and to all who knew and loved her.
MAP wrote in an e-circular dated 17 June 2016:
‘Jo frequently spoke out in Parliament on issues in Palestine and previously worked on and in Palestine with Oxfam. Here is just one contribution, from her intervention on Gaza made last year:
“The facts are clear: only one home has been rebuilt in the past year, since the bombing, and the projections are that it will take hundreds of years to rebuild at the current rate. There is a need for materials to get into Gaza so that people can rebuild their lives.”‘

Scottish Friends of Palestine have paid tribute to Jo Cox the MP who lost her life in a vicious attack in her constituency yesterday. Arthur West chair of Scottish Friends of Palestine said- By all accounts she was a first class constituency MP who tirelessly worked on behalf of her constituents. However she was also someone who worked creatively and effectively on a number of international issues. Mr West said that Scottish Friends of Palestine were particularly grateful for her support of the Palestinian people. Mr West said- She was a member of Labour Friends of Palestine and spoke out very clearly about the Palestinian struggle for peace and justice. She will be sadly missed.
May we suggest you remember Jo Cox by making a donation to MAP (use this link). Thank you – in the name of Justice and Peace.
