Add our voice to signal clear opposition to all racism!

Dear All
The message below merits your attention and urgent reply to obanconcern4palestine AT gmail DOT com.
We need to respond as a group by 10th May 2016.
My suggestion is that we of Oban Concern for Palestine add all our voices to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign – PSC‘s joint statement, and donate at least part of the funding left over from our film screening last Tuesday evening towards their media campaign against slurs of anti-Semitism and racism. ‘The PSC works for peace & justice for Palestinians, in support of human rights & against all racism’.
Thank you for responding straight away to obanconcern4palestine AT gmail DOT com

Message received from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, PSC, via Scottish Friends of Palestine, SFoP, late on 6 May 2016:
Dear partners
We are writing to ask you to sign a joint statement making clear our opposition to all racism, our concern about the attacks against campaigning for Palestinian human rights, and our determination to continue to campaign for justice for Palestinians.
This would be for publication as an advertisement in a media publication (to be decided).
It will be shown with a picture of the disappearing Palestine maps.
Please let me know by 10am, Tuesday 10 May if you wish to sign the statement below. Please also let us know the full name (including prefix and suffix if required) and job title of the person signing for your organisation, if appropriate.
We would also welcome sponsorship or contributions towards this advert.
Many thanks
Sara Apps, Interim Director, Palestine Solidarity Campaign
Joint Statement below:
Voices for Palestine – We will not be silenced
We are organisations and individuals who – for many years – have campaigned for Palestinian human rights in our different and varied ways.
We pledge to the people of Palestine that we will not be silenced and that we will continue to speak out until they have justice.
There is a concerted campaign to label criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic.
As anti-racists we object to the slur that is being propagated in the media about those who genuinely raise the issue that Israel should be held to account for its actions.
It is not racist to criticise a government if it is in breach of international law and Israel is. In military occupied Palestine, Israel is colonising Palestinian land, trampling on human rights and discriminating against the Palestinian people, in law and deed, on a daily basis.
Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia are abhorrent examples of a growth in racism that needs to be challenged. This is not assisted by encouraging a witch-hunt of individuals and organisations whose only crime has been to support Palestine and defend human rights.
We are proud to stand up for Palestine and will not be silenced.
Sara Apps, Interim Director, Palestine Solidarity Campaign
Please join our Nakba Week of Action – until 15th May | #Nakba68
Nakba means ‘Catastrophe’ in Arabic. This commemorates the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from 1948 until today

One Response to Add our voice to signal clear opposition to all racism!

  1. This thank you has just come in from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign:

    Dear friends,

Today we are writing to say thank you. Over the last few weeks we’ve asked a lot from you and, as always, you’ve more than risen to the challenge.

Collectively you’ve donated over £56,000 to our campaigns since the start of April. We asked you to help us raise £25,000 to build bigger and better campaigns; you absolutely smashed the target.

We know the last few weeks have been tough, the smears and attacks on our movement have meant to derail us. But with £56,000 worth of donations from over 1,000 of you, we are making sure we have the resources not only to counter these attacks, but to continue to build positive campaigns for Palestine. So thank you.

The vast majority of our money comes from our members and supporters making donations of whatever they can afford, without which we simply wouldn’t exist. We are powered by people like you. Thank you for keeping us powerful.
Since 3rd May we’ve been commemorating the ethnic cleansing of Palestine know as the Nakba. In 1948 750,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes by what would become the Israeli Forces; they have never been allowed to return. Over the last few weeks up and down the country we’ve stood in solidarity with Palestinians and been building our movement so they can finally be allowed to go home.

From stalls and vigils, to concerts and dinners, to talks, workshops and more, over 60 events across the country brought together thousands of people to learn about and discuss the Nakba, to plan campaigns, and to enjoy Palestinian culture. You can read reports from two of our events here and here.

The Israeli Government is trying to erase the Nakba from history. But we know that in order to deal with the occupaion and oppression we see today, we need to understand, respect and commemorate the past. We are honouring the Nakba by keeping the memory alive and together we are working towards a positive future when the Palestinian catastrophe can finally end.

Thank you for everything you’ve done over the last few weeks. It really has been amazing.

But of course the campaign doesn’t stop here. We’re gearing up for a day of action against HP on 4th June (watch this space for more information). In the meantime we’ve launched a new film Why we Boycott with one of the founders of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement Omar Barghouti, and we’ve also got a brand new website, so have a look around.

    In graditude and solidarity
    Tricia and everyone at PSC
