“Cuisine has long been a meeting ground for passion and politics in the case of Palestine. Resistance Recipes is a doc composed of several stories examining culinary and agricultural projects inspired by resistance. Personal and political insights accompany an account of independent eco-farming, a look at women’s farming and marketing cooperative, and discussion of a buy-local initiative. [vimeo.com]
“This insightful documentary explores the cuisine and agriculture of the West Bank and provides a platform for audiences to hear from Palestinians who are using traditional skills and sustainable farming techniques to produce organic home-grown food. The documentary explores the politics of food, illuminates struggles around access to land and water, and explores how communities are coming together in order to avoid dependence upon produce from encroaching Israeli settlements. [Camcorder Guerillas/Radical Film Network]
(Produced by Association NOMADA 2012, the film project was co-financed by the Polish development cooperation programme 2012 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The documentary was officially selected by the LONDON PALESTINE FILM FESTIVAL, BRISTOL PALESTINE FILM FESTIVAL, TORONTO PALESTINE FILM FESTIVAL and SHEFFIELD DOC VIDEOTHEQUE.)
As Glasgow hosts the Radical Film Network Festival from 30 April–2 May 2016,
RESISTANCE RECIPES will be screened throughout the UK. The Camcorder Guerrillas are co-ordinating this national event as part of the Radical Film Network Festival and Unconference, Glasgow, 30 April–2 May 2016.
The event will involve individuals, Palestinian support groups, Food groups, Community cinemas, Artist collectives, Community centres, Cafés and Screening groups,
from the Outer Hebrides in Scotland to Brighton in the South of England. The aim of this UK-wide event is to generate support, solidarity and awareness about the devastating issues facing Palestinian farmers and food producers in the Middle East conflict.
It will also provide an opportunity to build a network of groups and organisations keen to use film as a tool to develop awareness and grow community cohesion around important social justice issues.
