End Israel’s siege of Gaza
On Saturday, 19 July 2014, Oban Concern for Palestine held a 90-minute vigil as tens of thousands up and down the UK and all over the world demanded an end to Israel’s siege of Gaza and occupation of Palestine. Over 150 signatures were added to Open Letters from Oban to the Scottish *) and UK **) governments to demand justice and human rights.
In 13 days to 20 July, Israel’s assaults on Gaza claimed well over 400 Palestinian lives, at least 76 of them children, and 18 Israeli soldiers; more than 3,000 have been wounded. At least 50,000 Gazans have been made homeless; hospital and other supplies are running out.
Israel has been in breach of international law since 1947. Middle East Monitor notes that, in 13 years to April 2013, Israeli actions killed 1,581 Palestinian children. Every year, some 600 Palestinian children, many as young as 12, are held captive in Israeli prisons, most of them charged with stone throwing.
